St. Johns Wort

Hypericum perforatum. perennial.  Light dependent germinator.  Sow in spring.  Press seed firmly into surface and keep evenly moist and in the light until germ, which takes about 5 days.  Transplant or thin to 3 to 4 feet apart.  Plants will grow 3 to 4 feet tall in the second year with profuse small yellow flowers that open over the summer solstice.  Our plants hum all summer long with all the pollinators it attracts.  Use in salves or tinctures.  Traditional uses are for regenerating nerve pain and anti-depressant.
